Ashok Leyland May Sales: Domestic Volumes Fall 3% as M&HCV Bus Sales Decline 35%, LCV Offers Cushion

Hinduja group-backed Ashok Leyland on Monday reported domestic vehicle sales of 14,148 units in May 2026, a 3 per cent decline from 14,534 units sold in the same month last year. According to the company, its medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) sales fell 11 per cent year-on-year to 8,320 units, against 9,386 units in May 2025. 

Within the segment, M&HCV truck sales slipped 5 per cent to 7,065 units from 7,466 units a year earlier, while M&HCV bus sales took a sharper hit, dropping 35 per cent to 1,255 units from 1,920 units.

The light commercial vehicle segment provided some relief, with domestic LCV sales climbing 13 per cent to 5,828 units in May 2026, up from 5,148 units in the year-ago period.

Including exports, Ashok Leyland's total vehicle sales stood at 14,923 units for the month, a 4 per cent fall from 15,484 units in May 2025. Total M&HCV sales incorporating exports declined 13 per cent to 8,966 units, while LCV sales on the same basis grew 15 per cent to 5,957 units.

For the first two months of FY27 covering April and May, the company's domestic vehicle sales reached 28,390 units, up 5 per cent from 27,043 units in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Cumulative domestic M&HCV sales over the period stood at 16,297 units, down 3 per cent year-on-year, whereas LCV volumes expanded 18 per cent to 12,093 units.

On a consolidated basis including exports, cumulative vehicle sales for April–May 2026 edged up 2 per cent to 29,569 units, compared with 28,905 units in the same period last year.
