Aston Martin has taken the wraps off the DB12 S, an uprated variant of its acclaimed grand tourer that promises sharper dynamics and increased power. The British marque's latest offering centres around a revised version of the Mercedes-AMG-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Power has been lifted to 690 bhp at 6,000 rpm, marking a 19 bhp increase over the standard DB12. Torque remains unchanged at 800 Nm, delivered from as low as 2,750rpm and sustained through to 6,000rpm.
Performance figures reflect these enhancements, with the coupe completing the 0-96.5 kmph sprint in 3.4 seconds—a tenth quicker than its predecessor. The convertible Volante version follows closely at 3.5 seconds. Both variants achieve a top speed of 325 kmph.
Much of the acceleration improvement stems from significant gearbox refinements. Engineers at Gaydon have slashed shift times by approximately 50 per cent whilst simultaneously optimising the launch control system for more explosive getaways.
Beyond straight-line pace, Aston Martin has focused considerable attention on chassis development. The DB12 S receives recalibrated Bilstein DTX dampers with revised software to manage body roll and pitch more effectively. A stiffer rear anti-roll bar works alongside modified suspension geometry, including altered toe and caster settings, to sharpen front-end response and overall agility.
The steering system and electronic rear differential have both been retuned to enhance driver engagement. The updated differential mapping allows drivers to apply throttle earlier when exiting corners, whilst an advanced torque vectoring system aids traction and stability. Carbon-ceramic brakes now come as standard equipment, saving approximately 60 pounds of unsprung weight compared to conventional steel discs whilst improving thermal management during spirited driving.
Aerodynamic modifications play a key role in the S's performance envelope. A dual-element front splitter generates additional downforce, complemented by new bonnet louvres that extract heat from the engine bay. At the rear, a fixed spoiler and redesigned diffuser help maintain stability at high speeds.
The exhaust system has been completely redesigned, featuring a distinctive double-stacked quad-pipe arrangement on each side. Whilst a stainless steel system comes as standard, buyers can specify an optional titanium setup that increases volume by 1.5 decibels and reduces weight by approximately 25 pounds.
Visual distinctions include red S badges positioned behind the front wheels, the prominent quad exhaust tips, and the more aggressive aerodynamic additions. Inside, the cabin receives premium treatment with choices of Alcantara and leather upholstery featuring S motifs and herringbone quilting. Customers can select between 16-way adjustable sport seats or lightweight carbon fibre performance seats, whilst an Alcantara-wrapped heated steering wheel is available. Red anodised trim and knurled metal controls add visual interest to the dashboard and centre console.
The DB12 S is available in the UK now, and it is available to order now in both coupe and Volante body styles. First deliveries are expected in early 2026. While official pricing hasn't been confirmed, estimates suggest the coupe will start around £270,000, with the Volante commanding approximately £290,000.
