Renault India engineers the platform to handle crash tests at 64 kmph.
Renault India has shared details on its RGMP platform. This platform forms the base for the new Duster SUV. The company states that the platform meets standards for a 5-star rating from NCAP agencies. Tests by these agencies have not yet taken place. Renault India expects cars on this platform to score high in safety ratings.
The RGMP platform, or Renault Group Modular Platform, is built for the Indian market. It uses high static and dynamic stiffness in the body structure. The front end absorbs energy in crashes. Side intrusions have reinforcements. Torsional stiffness reaches 25 km/gal, the highest in its segment. Rear crash protection goes beyond current regulations in India says Renault.

Renault India engineers the platform to handle crash tests at 64 kmph. This speed exceeds the 57 kmph used in standard regulations. Materials, joinery, spot welds, and structural sealers support this design. Rear structure protects high-voltage systems and CNG cylinders in rear impacts. This covers cases where trucks hit cars from behind. So all bases covered then?
In a session conducted by Dr Vikraman V, Chief of Renault Engineering, Renault Group India, said, “Safety is a philosophy at Renault, not just a regulation tick. The platform helps Renault India build stronger cars. It scales from sub-4 metre SUVs to 4.7 metre C-segment models. Future cars will use this base for better crash performance.”
Renault plans models with different body styles and powertrains, and we have told you everything about it. All will share the platform's safety features.
