After several calculated delays and much anticipation, Ather Energy finally rang the bells of Dalal Street by going live with its IPO. The brand plans to raise ₹2,981 crore from this public offering which will help further expand its product portfolio. Amongst which, its upcoming range of electric motorcycles will be one of its most significant developments. These bikes will be built on a completely new platform called Zenith and are currently under development to launch next.
Speaking to our Editor-in-Chief, Siddharth Vinayak Pattankar, Ather’s CEO and Co-Founder, Tarun Mehta revealed that these upcoming bikes “will cater from 125-300 cc, so a large band.” Details about these bikes are yet to be fixed, but “motorcycles are up next,” for the brand, confirmed Mehta.

Electric motorcycles have been quite a niche segment in the country. Consumers have mostly preferred scooters in the electric two-wheeler space. While Revolt has managed to make a small space for itself with its wide range of Revolt RV bikes – electric scooters have mostly been the order of the day. Even Ola Electric has launched its Roadster range of electric bikes, but deliveries are yet to commence, so we can’t ascertain as to how successful the brand will be in this space.
As for Ather, its 125 cc equivalent electric bikes will have the likes of the Honda CB Shine 125 which has consistently been the highest-selling 125 cc bikes for eons now. In the 300 cc segment, Ather will have the likes of the Pulsar N250 or the Suzuki Gixxer 250 as its benchmark. As for their body styles, there are a lot of scopes for Ather in this space. From naked sports to commuter bikes, and maybe even an enduro bike (like the Ultraviolette Shockwave). Further details will be revealed soon, for now Ather will need to first set up its manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
