Audi has released the first glimpse of the all-new Q7, signalling the next step in its large SUV strategy. The third-generation model will arrive as the brand prepares to position the upcoming Q9 above it in the global portfolio.
Audi has previewed the third generation of the Q7, marking the next phase for one of its most recognisable luxury SUVs. The company has released a close-up teaser of the all-new model and said the SUV will build on more than two decades of Q7 positioning around versatility, road presence and premium status.
The new Q7 is being presented as a broader product renewal rather than a routine model-year update. Audi says the third-generation SUV will bring a sportier and more powerful design, a highly versatile interior, first-class materials, user-centric technologies and a wider spread of driving characteristics, from comfort-oriented cruising to more dynamic responses. The company has not yet disclosed powertrain details, dimensions, production location, market launch timing or prices.
That restraint matters. Large luxury SUVs are increasingly being shaped by three overlapping pressures: electrification, cabin digitalisation and the continued demand for long-distance combustion-engine refinement in several markets. Audi has not confirmed the new Q7’s powertrain mix, so any expectation of petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid variants remains outside the official announcement for now.
The Q7 has been central to Audi’s SUV expansion since its first public debut in 2005. Audi’s own historical account notes that the original Q7 followed the Pikes Peak quattro concept and became the brand’s first SUV, with more than 550,000 customers choosing the first-generation model between the start of production in 2006 and the end of that generation in 2015.
The third-generation Q7 will also arrive in a changed internal hierarchy. Audi has confirmed the first-ever Q9, which will sit above the Q7, with its recent official preview describing the Q9 as the brand’s first large full-size SUV and a flagship model offering up to seven seats. Audi said in May that the Q9 would be launched in around two months, placing its debut in the early part of the second half of 2026.
For India, the new Q7 will be watched closely. The outgoing Q7 remains part of Audi India’s retail line-up, priced at ₹87 lakh. In India, the Q7 has traditionally appealed to buyers seeking a three-row luxury SUV with badge value, long-distance comfort and a balance between family use and executive mobility.
The arrival of the Q9 could sharpen the Q7’s role rather than diminish it. With a larger model moving to the top of the SUV range, the Q7 may be repositioned more clearly as a premium family SUV below the flagship tier, competing on packaging, comfort, technology and driving polish rather than outright size.
Audi’s teaser leaves many commercial questions open, including India launch timing and localisation strategy. For now, the message is clear: the Q7 is entering a new generation just as Audi recalibrates its large-SUV ladder for markets where premium three-row models continue to command strong attention.
