Top 5 companies take up 86 percent of market share
The Indian two-wheeler industry roared into action in 2024, with leading companies experiencing a surge in sales compared to April 2023. This positive trend is fueled by a number of reasons, including a comeback in rural markets, a more optimistic mood among consumers, and a steady stream of new product launches.
Two-Wheeler OEM | APR'24 | Market Share (%) APR'24 | APR'23 | Market Share (%) APR'23 |
---|---|---|---|---|
HERO MOTOCORP LTD | 5,11,599 | 31.13% | 4,11,206 | 33.33% |
HONDA MOTORCYCLE AND SCOOTER INDIA (P) LTD | 3,94,147 | 23.98% | 2,44,732 | 19.84% |
TVS MOTOR COMPANY LTD | 2,80,204 | 17.05% | 2,08,818 | 16.93% |
BAJAJ AUTO GROUP | 1,95,842 | 11.92% | 1,46,538 | 11.88% |
SUZUKI MOTORCYCLE INDIA PVT LTD | 77,898 | 4.74% | 61,957 | 5.02% |
Hero MotoCorp, the longstanding king of the Indian two-wheeler market, seems to be facing a changing of the guard. While it retained the top spot for the past few months, its stronghold is loosening. Honda, on the other hand, has emerged as the comeback kid. Their impressive sales surge suggests it has addressed past shortcomings and are gunning for the top position.
Meanwhile, the established players, TVS and Bajaj, are watching the fight closely. Both have carved out a comfortable space in the top 3, but TVS's slight dip in sales indicates it can't afford complacency. Bajaj’s new product Pular NS400Z might propel them forward a bit for the next few months. Along with this it has plans for CNG, and a few more products in the Triumph and KTM lineup coming in 2024. Suzuki has been taking 5th place consistently which can be improved with a fresh product, maybe an electric which there are rumours of to happen soon.
Royal Enfield, though not included in the top 5, did experience a 9 percent growth in sales in April 2024, showcasing their continued presence in the market.
