In April 2025, the electric two-wheeler segment registered a stellar 40 per cent YoY growth with 91,791 electric two-wheelers cumulatively sold.
After a successful FY 2025 that saw the Indian electric two-wheeler market cross the million annual sales (or 10 lakh units) mark in FY 25, the momentum seems to carry forward to FY26 as well.
For in the first month of FY 26, i.e. in April, the electric two-wheeler segment has already registered sales of 91,791 units. TVS is leading this charge with 19,736 units sold, whereas the previous leader, Bajaj Auto has slipped down to third position with 19,001 units. Bajaj Auto has been surprisingly surpassed by Ola Electric which now ranks second with sales of 19,709 units.
Ola’s jump to number two position was primarily driven by the slew of discounts it was offering as part of “Akshay Tritiya”. And while Bajaj Auto might have dropped down to number three, the launch of the new, more affordable Bajaj Chetak 3503 will help the marque catch up on some lost grounds. Both Bajaj Auto and Ola Electric have equal share over the electric two-wheeler market at 21 per cent, while TVS Motor inches past these two marques by just 1 per cent at 22 per cent.
Bengaluru-based Ather Energy who recently publicly issued its IPO holds 14 per cent of the market share. In April 2025, it raked in sales of 13,167 units, and this sales growth was primarily driven by its family electric scooter, the Rizta with maximum volume. Ather Energy is trailed by its investor, Hero MotoCorp, which holds 7 per cent of the electric two-wheeler market with just 6,123 units Vida electric scooters retailed.
While cumulative sales in April 2025 on a year-on-year basis has increased by 40 per cent, on a month-on-month basis it has dropped by 30 per cent. In March 2025, a total of 1,31,163 units of electric scooters were retailed in the country. However, that has been the trend for the past few years, wherein sales remain slow at the start of a financial year and during the monsoon period and then start to pick up during the festive season. Plus given how automakers are gearing up to expand their product portfolio - the electric two-wheeler market is expected to get more diverse and exciting.
