This decline is due to a cumulative decline in passenger and commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market last month.

Tata Motors reported that it cumulatively sold 77,232 passenger cars and commercial vehicles last month in both domestic and international markets. This was 9 per cent less than the 84,834 units it sold in the same month last year. Of these, 46,811 were passenger vehicles, while the remaining 32,533 included commercial vehicles of all types.

In its passenger vehicle segment, Tata retailed 46,435 units in the domestic market, while 376 units were exported. The latter marked a massive growth of 596 per cent, compared to 54 units it exported in the same month last year. The former was a 9 per cent sales decline, compared to the 51,267 units it retailed in February 2024.

Tata Motors' new design language has gathered quite the eyeballs, but hasn't translated to much sales.

On the other hand, Tata’s electric vehicle segment also registered a 23 per cent decline in sales, with only 5,343 units (both domestic and export) retailed last month, compared to the 6,923 units it retailed in the same period last year.

Tata Motors retailed 30,797 commercial vehicles in the domestic market, plus 1,736 units were exported. While the former translated to an 8 per cent decline, exports registered a 14 per cent growth. Yet, it was not enough for Tata to close the month positively, as the marque registered an overall decline of 7 per cent in CV sales.
