As per the sales data shared by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for February 2024, passenger vehicles, i.e. four-wheelers, registered their highest-ever monthly sales in the country with a Month-on-Month growth of 10.8 per cent. While Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, accredited the maiden Bharat Electric Mobility as the reason behind this growth momentum, several new launches from the industry have also helped contribute towards this upward trajectory.
Based on the latest data from SIAM, here are the top 5 car manufacturers in February 2024:
The Indian manufacturer produced 1,74,543 units last month, out of which 1,60,271 units were sold in the domestic market and the rest 28,670 units were exported. In comparison, the marque retailed 1,56,438 in February 2023, out of which 1,47,467 were produced for the domestic market, while the rest 16,956 units were exported.
Hyundai was the second largest manufacturer in India last month. It retailed a total of 67,599 units of its SUVs, sedans, and a hatchback in February 2024. The Creta badge clocked the highest-ever sales in a month since its introduction with 15,276 units of the SUV sold last month. Domestic sales of Hyundai grew from 47,001 units in February 2023 to 50,201 units in February 2024. However, exports dipped slightly from 10,850 units in February 2023 to 10,300 units last month.
Third is Mahindra with a total of 44,106 units sold in February 2024, which is 13,128 units more than what it sold in February 2023. Despite registering strong domestic growth 42,401 units (30,358 units in February), its export figures more than halved last month with just 560 units exported, compared to 1,408 units exported in February 2023.
Tata Motors passenger vehicle segment (includes EVs) increased by 19 percent February 2024, compared to 43,140 units in February 2023. Its total vehicle sales (including both PVs and CVs) was at 84,834 units, which is a 9 per cent Month-on-Month growth from 78,006 units it retailed in the country in February 2023.
Toyota has survived in the Indian market by a healthy combination of mass market and high-end luxury cars. In February 2024, the manufacturer registered 33,698 unit sales, out of which 23,293 units were sold in the domestic market, while 1,920 units were exported.
