The Japanese two-wheeler giant looks all set to dislodge Hero from the top in FY26
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) shared its FY25 sales report and it was a bumper year for the Japanese two-wheeler giant. Honda sold 58,31,104 units in FY24, which is a massive 19 per cent growth compared to the previous financial year. Out of which 5.32 million units were sold in the domestic market and exports stood at 5,05,012 units.
Despite its stellar performance, Honda still trails its erstwhile partner, Hero MotoCorp, as the Indian brand remains the market leader with 58,99,187 units. However, given that the sales difference between these two brands is just around 68,000 units, Hero officials better be worried.

As for the March, 2025 sales report, Honda sold 4,01,411 units out of which 26,037 units were exported. The bulk of the Honda sales comes from the Activa, which remains the scooter king of India, while the Honda Shine is the 125 cc segment leader. Despite its strong performance in many segments, the Japanese brand hasn’t been able to crack the premium motorcycle segment (300-500 cc) especially since the Honda CB 350 series haven’t been able to attract customers.
Honda also entered the Indian EV space by launching the Activa e: and the QC1 electric scooters, deliveries for which started last month. It will be interesting to see whether or not Honda is able to crack the highly competitive electric scooter segment.
It will also be interesting to see whether Honda is able to overtake Hero MotoCorp with respect to overall sales in FY26. Hero has traditionally been a weak performer in the scooter segment, but the Destini 125 and Xoom 125R along with the soon to arrive Xoom 160 will try to change the narrative.
