The newly launched models, like the Xtreme 250R and XPulse 210, have started to make strong headwinds

After a couple of sombre months, Hero MotoCorp is back to the top of the sales charts with  5,07,701 units sold in May 2025, representing a positive bounce back to the top of the leaderboard. Hero had missed out on the top spot for the past couple of months, losing out to Honda in the process. Alarm bells went ringing when it slipped down to number three in April, as even TVS managed to beat the Indian two-wheeler giant.

Hero Xtreme 125R

However, things seem to be returning back to normalcy as Hero’s motorcycle business is once again firing on all fronts. Scooters still aren’t quite as formidable for its growth with electrics being even less. There was a small growth reported for the Vida brand as well as Hero scooters in general but it was nothing dramatically wowing to take notice.

In April, the small capacity commuter motorcycles as well as the 125 cc bikes took a major hit in sales. While we shall wait for the official model-wise sales numbers to arrive later this month, the dip could be attributed to inventory overload at certain dealerships across the country. According to our industry sources, there was nearly two months of pending inventory at some outlets and hence a necessary temporary halt in production was carried out. Hero had cited at the time that it was done to carry out some scheduled maintenance and improvements across all factories.

Hero XPulse 210

Hero’s target of 100 Premia dealerships (the company’s premium outlets) have been met and we can expect these to grow steadily in the times to come. It will be necessary as Hero’s new Xoom 125R, Xtreme 250R and XPulse 210 have begun hitting the market. And with impending model launches like the Vida VX2, Xoom 160 and Karizma XMR 250, Hero will aim to fuel its premium side of the business better in the months to come. And we could also hear more details on a new Harley-Davidson model built on the jointly-developed 440 cc platform readying soon.
