While the Chakan-based manufacturer’s export business is booming, its domestic performance has declined.
2024 was a pretty busy year for Bajaj Auto. From launching the biggest Pulsar to updating the entire Pulsar range to giving the world its first production CNG motorcycle – the Chakan-based manufacturer had something or other new launching every month.
But despite this aggressive product onslaught, Bajaj Auto’s sales during the festive month were not very encouraging. While the brand’s overall sales increased by 2 per cent in October 2024 at 4,14,372 units, from 4,08,144 units in October 2023. Its two-wheeler sales declined by 8 per cent in the domestic market from 2,78,486 units in October 2023, to 2,55,909 units last month.
But on the contrary, the company’s export business has been booming with sales standing at 1,58,463 two-wheelers last month from 1,29,658 units in the corresponding month previous year. This is a solid 22 per cent growth in two-wheeler export.
On this note, Bajaj’s foreign business has turned out to be quite profitable in just a year. Bajaj Auto has already garnered over ₹250 crore in revenue. To further this growth, the brand also made an additional fresh investment of $10 million (₹84 crores). With such momentum, Bajaj might push for more growth in foreign territories. However, the brand’s domestic ambition should not go unnoticed. In fact, the Bajaj Freedom 125 is turning out to be quite popular and in just one month of production, it has already outsold 5,000 units. Will the Freedom 125 be able to single-handedly bring Bajaj back to the top of the domestic market? Let’s see.
