The new MX Carbon is the world’s lightest off-road helmet to have a triple certification - DOT, ISI, and ECE 22.06.

Vega Helmets, the parent company of Axor, has launched the new MX Carbon off-road helmet, which weighs just 1,050 grams ±50 grams (large shell). The new MX Carbon is the world’s lightest off-road helmet to have a triple certification - DOT, ISI, and ECE 22.06. The new helmet has been completely developed in India, and is manufactured at Vega’s plant in Belgavi, Karnataka.

The new Axor MX Carbon extensively uses carbon fibre in its construction, helping keep things light without compromising on safety. The reduced weight helps minimise the burden of wearing the helmet for longer hours, especially in demanding off-road riding conditions.

Vega says it has been working with carbon fibre for nearly three decades, having been producing helmets for exports on a contractual basis. The brand has since introduced its own line of road carbon fibre road helmets.

“We started our carbon fibre journey in 1998 with a long-term belief in the material and its potential to transform helmet engineering. The MX Carbon brings that journey together in a product that demonstrates what can be achieved when material expertise, manufacturing capability and helmet engineering come together. More importantly, it is a product designed and manufactured in India for riders who demand a high level of performance from their equipment. We believe this is an important step in showcasing the capabilities we have built in India over nearly three decades,” said Dilip Chandak, Chairman, Vega Auto.

“The engineering challenge with the MX Carbon was not simply to make a lighter helmet. It was to optimise the material, construction and manufacturing process to achieve a significantly reduced weight while meeting the required certification standards. At approximately 1,040 grams, the result reflects years of learning in carbon fibre and composite manufacturing. We see this as an important step towards bringing lightweight engineering into a wider range of helmet applications,” said Girdhari Chandak, Managing Director, Vega Auto.

Vega says its new MX Carbon sets the engineering roadmap for the brand’s broader lightweight helmets, specifically carbon fibre ones. The MX Carbon will be available in multiple sizes, starting from Small to Double XL, across three shell sizes.
