Deliveries have also commenced, which had been halted for a while.
A few days after news broke that China had lifted the ban on rare earth magnet exports to India, the Indian EV industry started to bounce back. Bajaj Auto today announced that it has commenced deliveries of its all-electric scooter, the Chetak, across all dealerships. The Akurdi-based company had to temporarily halt production for a few weeks due to the unavailability of rare earth magnets, but that is not the case anymore.
However, with China repealing the ban, Bajaj Auto could restart production and shipments on August 20, thus marking a quicker-than-anticipated recovery to full manufacturing capacity. Bajaj Auto has now secured adequate supplies of rare earth magnets and other critical materials to ensure uninterrupted availability during the upcoming festival period too.
“Demand for Chetak remains robust, supplies have normalised, and deliveries against bookings have commenced. We are scaling up production to meet rising demand while staying true to our standards of quality and customer delight,” noted Eric Vas, President, Urbanite Business Unit, Bajaj Auto.
Bajaj Auto will now launch a more affordable variant of the Chetak in the coming few days, which it had postponed due to the crisis. To know more about this upcoming scooter, check out this link.
