The Premium variant will now be a bit more powerful and pack in a fair few tech goodies
Prior to the January 5 launch, key details regarding the new Bajaj Chetak Premium version have surfaced online. This includes what the new features are going to be as well as the new pricing of ₹ 1,35,463 for the standard Premium trim and ₹ 1,43,465 for the one with the additional Tecpac goodies (all prices, ex-showroom Chennai, including FAME-II subsidy). So, here’s what you will get on the new Chetak:
Bajaj has made some key changes to the electric heart of the Chetak. For starters, the battery is now larger, 3.2 kWh of which 2.78 kWh is usable for propulsion and the rest is used for the scooter’s basic functionalities. This is a step up from the previous 2.9 kWh unit. Hence, claimed IDC range is now 126 km, 18 km more than before.
Even the motor is different now. It will now bear a slightly more robust 4 kW motor that has a peak power rating of 4.4 kW, thus making it sort of on par with the TVS iQube S. Thankfully, the top speed of the Chetak has gone up from 60 kmph to 80 kmph (speedo indicated, actual would be roughly 73 kmph).
As standard, you will only get a single riding mode: Eco. The scooter will also get a monochrome TFT screen and will have limited connectivity features. Hence, the Tecpac that adds a whole host of additional goodies.
Tecpac will get a colour TFT screen. It will have Eco & Sport ride modes, while the regular will have only the option to switch to Eco mode. Hill Hold functionality and Sequential Blinkers will be only seen on the Tecpac variant. Additionally, it provides full app connectivity, incorporating features such as call management, music control, turn-by-turn navigation, notification alerts, display theme customisation, vacation mode, and remote immobilisation. The Tecpac version is equipped with TPMS, including a PSI display. While TPMS is present on the standard Premium, it will only give a low pressure warning.
The Chetak premium will be equipped with a monoshock at both ends and a front disc/rear drum brake setup. Similar to the 2024 Chetak Urbane, we anticipate the updated Premium variant to retain the design, including a round LED headlight, curvy side panels, and the established retro theme. Unchanged features encompass the single-piece seat and curved fenders, with the only noticeable variations being the introduction of new colour schemes.
We will be riding the updated Chetak Premium in the next couple of days as we are keen to figure out whether Bajaj has finally nailed the perfect balance between stylish elegance, great convenience and acceptable everyday performance.
