Bengaluru Traffic Police introduces a 50% discount on pending fines from August 23 to September 12, targeting e-challans. The scheme aims to clear dues amid 8.29 million violations in 2024.
Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has introduced a 50% discount on all pending traffic fines, effective from August 23 to September 12.
The initiative, endorsed by the Karnataka Government, seeks to encourage motorists to settle outstanding violations and reduce the burden of unpaid dues.
The discount applies solely to e-challans issued by BTP. Motorists can avail the concession by paying half the fine amount during this period. However, the scheme excludes older cases from the Transport Department, focusing only on recent e-challans.
BTP has outlined several ways for payments:
Motorists are urged to verify pending fines using their vehicle numbers and clear them before September 12 to avoid further action.
Similar discounts have proven effective. In 2023, a 50% rebate cleared over two lakh violations, recovering more than ₹5.6 crore in fines.
This year’s scheme aims to replicate that success by easing financial strain on violators while promoting compliance.
Bengaluru’s traffic woes continue, with over 8.29 million violations recorded in 2024. Two-wheelers accounted for the majority, with 5.85 million cases, involving offences like signal jumping, wrong parking, speeding, and dangerous driving.
