Can BMW’s new entry-level parallel-twin make a strong case for itself among Indian buyers?
BMW Motorrad recently launched the F 450 GS adventure bike in India, priced from ₹4.70 lakh ex-showroom. It comes in three trims: Base, Exclusive (₹4.90 lakh), and GS Trophy (₹5.30 lakh). Here are this bike’s top highlights:
1. New Parallel-Twin Engine
The heart of the bike is a fresh 420 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. It delivers a punchy 47 bhp and 43 Nm of torque, making it a substantial step up from the single-cylinder G 310 GS it replaces.
2. Premium Tech
BMW didn't hold back on the electronics. The bike features a 6.5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity and advanced rider aids including:
- Cornering Traction Control
- Dynamic Brake Control
- Multiple Ride Modes (Rain, Road, Enduro, and an optional Enduro Pro).
3. Weight Advantage
Despite being a twin-cylinder bike, the F 450 GS weighs just 178 kg. That makes it lighter than the single-cylinder KTM 390 Adventure S and RE Himalayan 450.
4. Specialised GS Trophy Variant
For serious off-road enthusiasts, the top-spec GS Trophy trim (priced at ₹5.30 lakh) adds high-end hardware like adjustable suspension and Easy Ride Clutch system. The latter is designed to reduce rider fatigue, especially in technical off-road sections or heavy stop-and-go city traffic, by making the clutch pull significantly lighter.
5. Most Affordable Twin-Cylinder ADV
By manufacturing the bike in India via their partnership with TVS, BMW has managed a starting price of ₹4.70 lakh. This positions it as an aggressive entry point into the premium twin-cylinder adventure segment, undercutting other bikes like the Benelli TRK 502 by a big margin.
