The 450 GS will be manufactured in India by TVS Motor.
One of the most highly anticipated new bike launches of 2025 has to be the BMW F 450 GS. It was first showcased at the EICMA motorcycle show last year and even the concept bike made its India debut at the Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year. Images of the production-spec bike undergoing testing have surfaced both in India and Europe revealing some interesting details. Here’s what to expect from the upcoming BMW bike.
(Opinion: BMW F450 GS And TVS - Why The Twin Is For The Win)
1. Multiple variants
The concept bike was showcased with tubeless spoke wheels, but the production-spec bikes, both of which were spotted in India and Germany were running alloy wheels. This leads us to speculate that the BMW F 450 GS could be offered in two trims. The first variant will be more touring-specific and will feature alloy wheels and this would also be the more affordable variant of the two. The second variant will be more off-road focused and come equipped with tubeless alloy wheels, but will also be more expensive.
2. Performance
The upcoming BMW ADV bike will be powered by an all-new 450 cc, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine. While we don’t have full engine specifications, the German brand has confirmed that it will be producing 45 bhp and get a 6-speed gearbox. The twin-cylinder will not be the most frantic of the lot, but should be refined and thereby offer good touring speeds to better suit its characteristics. Twin-cylinder mid-capacity bikes are growing in popularity as Kawasaki recently relaunched the Versys X-300 in India and Aprilia will launch the Touareg 457 in 2026.
3. Underpinnings
The production-spec bike has retained the same trellis frame as seen on the concept motorcycle and so is the bolted-on rear subframe, something we have already seen on the new KTM 390 family. A highlight of the F 450 GS is the 175 kg kerb weight, which will make it among the lightest ADV motorcycles in its category.
The test bike was running on non-adjustable USD fork and monoshock setup, but we expect the spoke wheels variant to get adjustability. Braking hardware is also the same with disc brakes on either ends, but it will be interesting to see if BMW Motorrad equips the bike with cornering ABS or not.
4. Pricing & Positioning
Just like the BMW G 310 GS, the upcoming BMW F 450 GS too will be manufactured in India by TVS and it will be exported globally. By manufacturing in India, BMW can better control the cost of the ADV bike while maintaining its quality. We expect the pricing to be in the premium end as it’s a twin-cylinder and it carries the BMW badge, so our estimate is around ₹4.50-4.80 lakh (ex-showroom).
This way the German brand offers its existing G 310 owners a good platform to upgrade, while also maintaining the entry-level BMW motorcycle in a premium space. The F 450 GS will rival the likes of the KTM 390 Adventure S, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the Kawasaki Versys X-300.
