BMW’s next models on its new platform will be the next-generation 3 Series models.

At the unveiling of the new iX3 electric SUV, BMW also previewed the upcoming i3 electric sedan. Along with this, BMW will also make a dedicated M version based on the i3, which will be the third model on the Neue Klasse platform. Just like the i3, the i3 M (let’s call it that for now) will also be a fully electric model.

BMW hasn’t divulged much information about the i3 or the i3 M, but it did say that the former will make its global debut in 2026. BMW also said that there will be more versions of the i3, likely the i3 M, which will be introduced following the debut of the i3.

The upcoming i3 will be the next generation of one of BMW’s best-selling models – the 3 Series. However, BMW did confirm that the next-generation 3 Series will not be fully electric, as the i3 will be one of the variants of the compact luxury sedan. BMW also said that despite going electric, the i3 will have the same sporty characteristics that made the 3 Series popular.

Similarly, the i3 M will also have the full M experience of outright sporty performance and emotions customers and fans associate with a dedicated M model. The i3 M will also not be the first fully-electric BMW M model as the i7 M70, i5 M60, i4 M60, and iX M70 already exist in its portfolio.
