The hardcore version of the R 1300 GS is also the first BMW product to debut the brand’s automatic transmission system.
After the recent launch of the R 1300 GS in India, BMW Motorrad has now globally unveiled its more hardcore version – the R 1300 GS Adventure.
Based on the same new platform with the compact engine that already underpins the current-gen R 1300 GS, with the R 1300 GS Adventure, BMW takes matters a notch up not just with that new bulky design, but also with more advanced features and hardware components. These thorough redesigns are aimed at enhancing its long-distance capabilities.
At the heart of the R 1300 GS is the same new redesigned twin-cylinder boxer engine that we experienced in the Himalayas a few months ago. This new mill is more compact than before which BMW engineers achieved by repositioning the transmission box and the camshaft drive under the engine. The power output remains the same as the R 1300 GS – 145 bhp and 149 Nm. But one of the biggest changes introduced with this powertrain is the integration of an automatic transmission system, making it the first BMW bike to gain so. In addition to that, BMW Motorrad has also equipped a new knock sensor system that enhances the bike's travel suitability across various conditions.
The chassis has undergone a complete overhaul, featuring a new sheet metal shell main frame made of steel and an aluminium lattice tube rear frame. The front wheel guide now incorporates an EVO Telelever with flex element, while the rear uses a revised EVO Paralever system. These changes have helped further enhance the steering precision and and made the ride more stable. Standard equipment available with this setup includes Electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA), with optional adaptive vehicle height control available for those seeking additional customization.
BMW has equipped the R 1300 GS Adventure with an array of advanced features to enhance the riding experience. Four riding modes now come as standard, and the bike boasts full LED headlights with a matrix design and auxiliary lights, just like the standard R 1300 GS. Additionally, it also gets Dynamic Cruise Control with braking function as standard, while an optional Riding Assistant package offers features like Active Cruise Control and collision warning systems.
Connectivity is a key focus, with a 6.5-inch TFT display providing access to various functions. Comfort features such as heated grips and Keyless Ride are now standard, as is an Intelligent Emergency Call system in applicable markets.
In global markets, the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure will be available in several colour schemes, including a basic variant in Racing Red, Triple Black, GS Trophy, and Option 719 Karakorum. As for its availability in India, BMW just launched the new generation R 1300 GS a few weeks back, and that happened almost a year after its global debut. So, we can expect a similar timeline with the R 1300 GS Adventure, and if not, then at least by the end of 2024 in all probability.
