The bike builds on the same aesthetics that BMW showcased at Lake Como in May.
The BMW R20 Concept has made another appearance, with a unique leather wrap on the fuel tank section, which was coloured in bright pink during its debut earlier in May, alongside the recently launched BMW R 1300 GS Adventure, at the picturesque Villa d’Este at Lake Como.
This time the bike was showcased at the BMW Motorrad Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and is a one-off special build for the Meindl Fashion company. It was a collaborative effort and the bike was designed by both BMW Motorrad boss Markus Flasch and Meindl boss Markus Meindl.
Making this second showcase more unique is the new leather hide wrap on the fuel section that is made up of deerskin. More importantly, the R20 Concept now also emotes Meindl Fashion’s new line-up of leather jeans pants with this unique wrap-up.
Beyond this novelty, much of the bike has remained the same. The R20 Concept continues to celebrate BMW’ immaculate craftsmanship. The leather-wrap bike continues to boast the same redesigned muscular-looking fuel tank, along with the exposed driveshaft. The new two-arm variant of BMW’s paralever swingarm has also been carried over, and so has the Alcantara leather-wrapped, floating single-seat design. Neatly wrapping up this entire package is the new headlight design with a floating visual mechanism, and that megaphone-styled open 2-in-2 exhaust system.
Similarly, the new 2,000 cc, boxer engine is also showcased here, which is expected to hit production soon. Yes, the R20 Concept does look like the R nineT roadsters, but with the bigger boxer engine, it is 10 per cent dimensionally larger than the existing R nineTs.
Going by BMW’s previous history with models like the F900 XR, K1600B, and the R1250 GS – which were all unveiled as concept models at Lake Como. The R20 Concept also stands a high chance of being launched as a production-spec model. However, the timeline is yet to be officially conveyed by BMW Motorrad, till then the brand will continue to warm up the market by showcasing the R20 Conpcet at such high-profile events.
