The reshuffling will see the race appear earlier on next season’s calendar if all things go according to plan.
In the case of “Will it or won’t it,” there’s a fresh new twist as the Indian Grand Prix will not take place in 2024. Yes, MotoGP fans will be disappointed as the organisers, Fairstreet Sports, have worked with Dorna, the sport’s operators, to move the Grand Prix to March 2025.
We were given a very good indication that the tickets for the 2024 event would go on sale in the coming few weeks. Sadly, this new bit of news leaves all two-wheel racing lovers disheartened and uncertain as to whether the postponement to March 2025 would also take place or not.
“It was mutually decided to shift the race to March next year. We are looking at first or second week of March. All the stakeholders including Dorna agreed that the September weather is not conducive for the race and it is tough on the riders and marshals as experienced last year,” Fairstreet Sports CEO Pushkar Nath Srivastava told PTI.
“All payments were being made in between and whatever is left will be paid by next month. So that was not really a factor in shifting the race to next year. We also thought of doing it in November but that would have meant four back-to-back races which would have been tough on the teams and the riders,” added Srivastava. “We also expect more fans to turn up in March as the weather will be better.”
We hope that this is the last bit of drama in this case as the sport, which has a lot of fans in India, will find a proper racing culture here in the country. Moving the race to the start would help with the weather being nicer as well as the season bringing a lot of freshness and uncertainty as to who would be the championship contenders. So, hopefully, while we are sad that the race will not take place in 2024, we wish that from 2025 onwards, it is nothing but smooth sailing.
