The urban scrambler aims to be better suited for our broken and bashed up roads

Triumph has launched the Scrambler 400X at an attractive price of Rs 2.63 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). There's no early bird discount here like it was in the case of the Speed 400, but at the aforementioned price tag, the Scrambler 400X is surely going to tempt a lot of buyers. Bookings for the same have been on for a while. If you want to book it now, though, it will be for Rs 10,000, which is refundable.

Think of the Scrambler 400X as a more rugged version of the Speed 400 roadster. While the main chassis and 398cc engine (39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm) remain the same, you get small revisions to the hardware to make it more rugged and worthy for Indian roads. For starters, it is rolling on a 19-inch front wheel with dual-purpose tyres at both ends. The suspension travel is bumped up to 150mm at both ends. You do get switchable ABS on the Scrambler 400X for the times you want to go light scrambling.

Even visually, the Scrambler looks more rugged and mean. The high rise beak, headlight grille, open-loop knuckle guards and earthy colours make it seem buff and capable of taking on any challenge. The handlebars are wider than the Speed and the seat is also taller by 45mm, giving you a commanding sense of the road ahead.

We will be riding the Scrambler 400X in the next few days and will be sharing our take on the bike on 18th October at 10am.
