Single or twin, is the right British roadster for your tastes?
The BSA Gold Star 650 has officially launched in India, marking a significant milestone for Classic Legends as it enters the premium 650 cc category. This highly anticipated launch pits the BSA Gold Star 650 against the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, its main rival in terms of style, engine specs, and overall appeal. But how do these two roadster motorcycles stack up against each other on paper?
Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and BSA Gold Star 650 share common roots when it comes to design. However, both companies approach this nostalgia in distinct ways. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650's silhouette is unmistakably retro, with a plethora of chrome accents on most variants and a choice of seven colours. Two of these colours opt for a black engine finish and forgo the shiny chrome spoke wheels, offering a slightly subdued look. In contrast, the BSA Gold Star 650's design is a masterclass in blending classic elements with contemporary flair. Its teardrop-shaped fuel tank, single flat bench seat, and chrome accents evoke feelings of a bygone era, yet its clean lines and retro flair ensure it looks fresh and modern. The BSA Gold Star 650's design is more understated, with a focus on timeless elegance, whereas the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650's retro aesthetic is more overt, with a dash of chrome and vibrant colour options.
With its classic look and slightly longer length, the BSA Gold Star 650 has a longer wheelbase. Additionally, its width is more than that of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. However, these dimensions should not be intimidating, as it has a lower seat height of 782 mm, which is 22 mm shorter than that of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Nevertheless, this comes at the cost of ground clearance, which drops by 24 mm. Ergos on both these bikes are similar. You sit a bit higher on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the handlebars put you in a leaned-forward position.

Its 652cc single-cylinder engine produces 45bhp and 55Nm, ideal for cruising, with 60% of torque available from as low as 1800 rpm.
