Who can guess the price of the Brouillard?

Bugatti has lifted the veil on a new one-off hypercar named Brouillard, marking the final standalone model to feature the marque’s iconic W16 engine. Commissioned by an unnamed buyer, the ultra-exclusive creation is a part of Bugatti’s newly launched Solitaire coachbuilding program, designed to push bespoke automotive design beyond its current boundaries. The Brouillard sets a new benchmark for personalisation, performance heritage, and pricing, likely exceeding the previous record set by the £11.3 million (approx. ₹119 crore) La Voiture Noire. So, who can guess the price of the Brouillard?

Farewell to the W16: The End of a Two-Decade Era

The Brouillard stands as a symbolic send-off for the quad-turbocharged 8.0-litre W16 engine that first powered the Veyron in 2005 and has defined Bugatti's engineering ethos for 20 years. Producing 1578 bhp, the W16 in the Brouillard is identical in performance to the Bugatti Mistral, but the body has been completely redesigned, with no panels shared between the two cars.

The Brouillard is the debut model under Solitaire, Bugatti’s new ultra-bespoke design division.

The Tourbillon, Bugatti’s next-generation flagship powered by a Cosworth-engineered V16 plug-in hybrid powertrain with 1,775 bhp, will be the base for all future models, making the Brouillard a true end-of-era collector’s item.

Introducing 'Solitaire': Bugatti’s Answer to Mulliner and Bespoke

The Brouillard is the debut model under Solitaire, Bugatti’s new ultra-bespoke design division. Unlike the current Sur Mesure personalisation programme, which has proven so popular that nearly every new Bugatti is now tailored, Solitaire enables full-body redesigns, creating “geometrically unique cars” with no visual connection to base models.

Positioned to rival Bentley’s Mulliner (creators of the Bacalar and Batur) and Rolls-Royce Bespoke (makers of the £20M-plus Droptail), Solitaire will offer one-off hypercars tailored entirely to individual customers, starting with the Brouillard.

Inspiration & Design: An Ode to Ettore Bugatti’s Thoroughbred

The design of the Brouillard is inspired by Brouillard, a thoroughbred horse once owned by company founder Ettore Bugatti. That muscular, flowing aesthetic has been translated into a car with no sharp lines, defined instead by “bulging muscles”, according to Bugatti design chief Frank Heyl.

Key design features include:

  • Fixed coupe roof, replacing the Mistral’s open-top design
  • Streamlined silhouette with smoother surfacing and no shared panels
  • Functional dual roof scoops, referencing the Veyron, which turns 20 this year
  • New venturi-style ducktail wing at the rear for aerodynamic efficiency
  • Visor-style glasshouse and front light signature carried over from Mistral
  • Green-over-green body finish, with matching satin-painted carbon fibre

Heyl called the car “leaping forward and yet leaning back”, a visual gesture intended to evoke both dynamism and historical roots.

Interior Details: Tartan, Carbon, and Custom Finishes

Inside, the Brouillard continues its unique theming with a green tartan-inspired interior, an equestrian nod that reflects the car’s inspiration. Even exposed carbon-fibre elements on the lower body are tinted green to match the satin upper panels, another example of the microscopic level of detail Solitaire offers.

Despite being a one-off, Heyl insisted the car still adheres to Bugatti design DNA, maintaining elements like:

  • Horseshoe grille
  • Bugatti signature line across the side
  • Vertical centre line across the bonnet and rear

He added that Solitaire enables designers to reinterpret, rather than abandon, these markers, giving more freedom within the boundaries of brand heritage.

Engineering & Exclusivity: A Custom Car with Series Car Rigour

The Brouillard is based on the Mistral’s body-in-white and powertrain, but its creation required a complete design and homologation process, akin to building a new production car.

Frank Heyl emphasised that despite being a one-of-one, the engineering requirements are no different from if it were a 100-unit model. That includes crash testing, aerodynamics, safety, and tooling, all of which feed into its massive development cost.

Timeline & Future of Solitaire

The Brouillard took around 18 months to design and build, and Solitaire can deliver two such one-off cars per year. According to Bugatti, future models may not be revealed publicly, depending on the wishes of the buyers.

However, the Brouillard will make a public debut at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance next week, acting as the showcase for Bugatti’s future of personalisation.
