BYD Atto 3: One Million Units Sold Globally in Under Three Years

BYD recently announced on its official Weibo page that cumulative global sales of the BYD Atto 3 have surpassed one million units. 

This electric vehicle (EV), known as the Yuan Plus in China, was first launched in its home country in February 2022. It took the Atto 3/Yuan Plus approximately 31 months to achieve this significant milestone.

Within 14 months of its initial launch, around 300,000 units of the Yuan Plus were sold in China, with an additional 200,000 units delivered over the following six months. 

The next half a million units were achieved over 25 more months, during which time BYD exported the Yuan Plus as the Atto 3 to over 100 countries worldwide.

For context, it took BYD about 1,391 days to deliver one million units of the Atto 3 globally. This means the Chinese automaker sold, on average, nearly 30 units per hour, 719 units per day, 5,032 units per week, and 20,129 units per month.

The Yuan Plus starts at ¥115,800 (approximately ₹13.97 lakh) in China. In India, the Atto 3, which launched in November 2022, begins at ₹24.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This makes it considerably less value for money compared to its Chinese counterpart.

It is available with battery options of 49.9kWh (offering a 468km range) or 60.5kWh (offering a 521km range).
