The Sealion 7 is BYD’s most premium offering in India and rivals the BMW iX1 L, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and more.
BYD, or Build Your Dreams, has launched its most premium offering in India, the Sealion 7, at ₹48.90 lakh. The Sealion 7 is available in two variants – Premium (₹48.90 lakh) and Performance (₹54.90 lakh). Bookings for the Sealion 7 began on January 18 and BYD has received nearly 1,000 bookings till now. Deliveries for the first 70 customers will begin from mid-March.
The Sealion 7 is based on the BYD’s Ocean Series, being the second model in India based on this design language after the Seal. It measures 4830 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2930 mm, and has a width and height of 1925 mm and 1620 mm, respectively. It also has a 500-litre boot and a 48-litre frunk.
The Premium variant of the Sealion 7 has a single-motor, RWD setup with 308 bhp and 380 Nm on tap, while the Performance variant gets a dual-motor, AWD setup with 523 bhp and 690 Nm. Both get an 82.56 kWh battery and while the Premium has a claimed range of 567 km of range, the Performance has a claimed range of 542 km. The Premium can do 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds, while the Performance is much quicker at 4.5 seconds.
BYD’s flagship SUV gets a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch virtual instrument cluster, powered front seats with ventilation, a panoramic glass roof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a ventilated wireless charging pad.
For perspective, the Seal is priced at ₹41 - 53 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Seal Premium variant is ₹3.35 lakh cheaper, while the Seal Performance variant is ₹1.90 lakh cheaper than comparable variants of the Sealion 7. BYD’s flagship SUV rivals the BMW iX1 L (₹49 lakh), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (₹46.30 lakh), Kia EV6 (prices yet to be announced) and Volvo EX40 (₹56.10 lakh).
