The Swedish electric two-wheeler brand had filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year.
The electric motorcycle brand CAKE, which filed for bankruptcy protection in February 2023 after investors withdrew support, has been acquired by the Norwegian automotive company Brages Holding AS. Brages has purchased all of CAKE's intellectual property and assembled a team to plan the revival of the company.
Espen Digernes, owner of Brages, expressed optimism about the acquisition, stating their belief in the growing market for electric micro-mobility solutions like motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, and ebikes. He cited Brages' experience as a car retailer witnessing rapid electrification in Norway's automotive sector. “Our goal in acquiring CAKE was to evolve the brand. We aim to scale CAKE by building a robust retailer distribution network and transforming a remarkable Swedish initiative into a Scandinavian success," said Digernes in a press release.

Since the acquisition, Brages has developed a business strategy aimed at leading targeted markets for high-end electric motorcycles and similar vehicles. Maintaining enthusiasm for the CAKE brand among existing riders and the company's team is also a priority.
Founded in 2016, CAKE's flagship product was the Kalk line of lightweight off-road and urban electric motorcycles featuring a minimalist Scandinavian style with aluminium and carbon fiber construction. The Kalk models like the OR, &, and INK combined engineering capabilities with a focus on sustainability and distinct aesthetics.
CAKE also offered the Ösa, a utility-focused ebike that could be customized for different uses. While expensive, CAKE's design philosophy cultivated a devoted following among environmentally-conscious riders.
Under new ownership, CAKE may be able to continue operations and potentially revive the brand's growth after facing closure. Executing Brages' business plan will determine CAKE's ability to realize its ambitious vision.
