BMW iX3 introduces bi-directional charging functions including vehicle-to-load, vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid capabilities.
BMW has unveiled the all-new iX3 electric SUV at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 at Los Angeles, USA. It is the first production model built on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture. This next-generation electric SUV previews the brand’s advanced innovations that will be progressively introduced across 40 new and updated models by 2027.
The 2026 BMW iX3 debuts the company’s sixth-generation eDrive technology that features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. This setup delivers 463 bhp and 645 Nm of torque. This configuration allows the SUV to sprint from 0–100 kmph in 4.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 210 kmph.
BMW has claimed a 40 percent reduction in energy losses over its previous electric vehicles, thanks to the new 800V battery architecture with cylindrical cells that integrates into the vehicle's structure. This architecture houses an 108.7 kWh battery pack that delivers a WLTP-certified range of up to 805 km on a full charge, the highest in its class.
On using a 400 kW DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent capacity in just 21 minutes. Simply speaking, around 372 km can be topped up within 10 minutes of DC fast charging. The German marque will also offer AC charging options of 11 kW as standard or 22 kW as an option. Being a Neue Klasse EV, the iX3 will support bi-directional charging thus enabling Vehicle-to-Load, Vehicle-to-Home, and Vehicle-to-Grid applications.
Beyond the battery and the electric motor, BMW iX3 is simply a new benchmark for technology on wheels. It is the first production vehicle to boast of Amazon’s new Alexa+ technology, allowing drivers to interact with their car in a far more natural and conversational way. Called the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the system is underpinned by a large language model, allowing drivers to speak naturally rather than rely on rigid commands or predefined phrases.

With a single conversational request, the vehicle can adjust cabin temperature, recommend nearby restaurants, check battery status, or deliver weather and news updates — aiming to create an experience that feels more like interacting with a responsive companion than a conventional voice-control system.

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will begin rolling out in Germany and the US in the second half of 2026 across all models equipped with BMW Operating System 9 and X. Additional feature upgrades include access to streaming services such as Disney+ and the TiVo-powered Video App, gaming via AirConsole, and Zoom calls that automatically switch to audio-only mode while driving. BMW has also broadened its in-car ecosystem with YouTube Music, new games like Hot Wheels: Xtreme Overdrive, and support for Bluetooth controllers.
