The new variant brings factory-fitted leatherette interiors and curated feature packs to the mid-size SUV, extending a strategy first tried on the Aircross.
Citroën India has introduced the Basalt X Comfort Edition, priced from ₹8.75 lakh, extending premium interior treatment and convenience features to the base and mid-range variants of its coupé-SUV. The launch, timed to Citroën's 108th anniversary, follows a similar Comfort Edition rollout on the Aircross earlier this year and signals the French carmaker's attempt to make its Advanced Comfort positioning count for buyers who don't stretch to the top trim.
The headline change is standard-fit Metropolitan Beige leatherette upholstery across all Comfort Edition variants — previously the preserve of higher trims. Citroën is pairing this with what it calls Comfort AXS Packs, optional bundles that let buyers add a JBL premium audio system, front and cabin dash cameras with predictive safety alerts, a reverse parking camera, wireless charging and a 10-inch Android touchscreen, rather than forcing a jump to a fully loaded variant to get any one of them.
The logic is straightforward: in a market where feature-per-rupee comparisons shape buying decisions as much as brand or badge, offering premium cabin materials and safety-adjacent tech at the entry end of a range can widen a model's appeal without the cost of a full trim overhaul. It is a tactic several manufacturers have leaned on in the compact and mid-size SUV segment, where the gap between base and top variants often runs to several lakhs and buyers increasingly expect connected safety features as standard rather than as a top-trim reward.

"At Citroën, comfort has always been at the heart of everything we do," said Kumar Priyesh, Business Head and Director – Automotive Brands, Stellantis India. He said the Basalt move followed "the encouraging response to the Aircross Comfort Edition" and was intended to make "premium comfort features more accessible across our portfolio."
Citroën has had a modest footprint in India's passenger vehicle market since entering in 2021, competing in a mid-size SUV segment dominated by Hyundai, Kia and Maruti Suzuki's Toyota-badged siblings. The Basalt, launched last year as a coupé-styled sibling to the C3 Aircross, has served as the brand's attempt to differentiate on design and ride comfort rather than compete purely on price or feature count. Widening the Comfort Edition's reach down the range suggests the company sees more traction in refreshing existing metal with targeted upgrades than in adding new nameplates for now.
