In addition to lower up-front purchase prices, the company says after-sales costs will reduce too.
Classic Legends, the company behind the revival of the Jawa and Yezdi brands in India, has announced that buyers will get the full benefit of lower tax rates on its models, thanks to GST 2.0 reforms. The new regime brings taxes on sub-350cc motorcycles down from 28 percent to 18 percent, leading to considerable cost savings for buyers. Most of its models will now cost under ₹2 lakh.
The company points out that all its Jawa and Yezdi models in India have 293cc or 334cc engines, which means they qualify for the reduced tax slab. It also says that the overall cost of ownership will reduce thanks to reduced GST on components, which means buyers can save more over the life of their bikes.
Speaking about the tax reforms announced earlier this week, Anupam Thareja, co-founder of Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles, said “While it raises the tax burden for higher cc motorcycles such as our 652cc BSA Gold Star, we accept it as the hallmark of progressive taxation. The trade-off makes mid-segment bikes accessible to a larger rider community — a win for India’s motorcycling culture.”
