Strong demand for the Defender, Range Rover, and Range Rover Sport, along with FTA price cuts, have contributed to JLR’s growth in India.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) India has recorded its highest-ever first-quarter retail sales performance for Q1 FY27, delivering 1,665 units, an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. Wholesale figures for the quarter also demonstrated steady growth, rising 4% year-on-year to reach 1,694 units.
The company's performance was overwhelmingly driven by its core SUV lineup, with the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Defender collectively accounting for more than 85% of total retail sales. The Defender maintained its position as JLR India’s top-selling model, continuing to lead sales volume in the luxury off-road segment.

Sales momentum received an additional boost following price adjustments introduced under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Revised pricing on the high-end Range Rover SV and Range Rover Sport SV, offering benefits of up to ₹75 lakh depending on the variant, triggered a sharp surge in customer inquiries and increased demand for customised Bespoke commissions.
Rajan Amba, Managing Director of JLR India, described the record-breaking quarter as a strong opening to FY27, highlighting that the FTA benefits have enabled the brand to bring more exclusive, tailored SV offerings to Indian consumers. With a strong product pipeline lined up for the remainder of the fiscal year, the luxury carmaker expects to sustain its growth momentum across its brand portfolio.
