After establishing a name for itself in the EV space in India, BYD is set to bring its Denza luxury lineup to India as a separate brand. The company has posted a teaser on social media, showing only its logo with the message “Arriving Soon”. Denza will likely tease its exact launch date and first models for the India market over the next few weeks.
Denza is positioned as a high-tech modern luxury EV brand, and will likely announce its first model or models in India before the end of 2026. Similar to JSW MG Motor India’s strategy with its MG Select network, BYD is likely to set up separate dealerships. Denza models will be priced significantly higher than BYD’s current portfolio, closer to the ₹1 crore mark.
The Denza brand was originally the result of a joint venture between BYD and Daimler AG in China. The German carmaker reduced its holdings over time, exiting entirely by 2024. Since then, the brand has entered international markets around Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. In some international markets, models from other BYD brands such as its Fangchengbao SUV are sold under the Denza name.
The company’s current portfolio in China includes the D9 luxury MPV, N8L and N9 luxury full-size SUVs, and Z series sportscars. Several models are available in battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain options, of which only the fully electric versions are likely to come to India.
Denza will almost certainly opt to import completely-built units from China, much like most of parent company BYD's portfolio here. BYD, which first entered India in 2016 as an electric bus maker, has been unsuccessful so far in clearing regulatory hurdles to setting up large-scale local manufacturing operations, though it still says it is exploring options to do so. BYD, including its subsidiaries, became the world's top EV maker in late 2025, and is the world's third-biggest carmaker overall based on market cap. It is also the world's second-largest EV battery maker, with its proprietary Blade battery system credited for helping BYD achieve its current efficiency and scale.
Separately, BYD will launch the Seal-U DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV in India in the near future, its first hybrid model in India, which will help the company attract buyers who have been wary of electric vehicles so far.
