Driven by increasing consumer demand, the expanding adoption of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos could play a central role in the future of in-car entertainment.
Dolby Laboratories is highlighting its significant growth in the automotive sector at Auto Shanghai 2025.
The company is showcasing the latest advancements in in-car entertainment, powered by its Dolby Vision HDR imaging and Dolby Atmos immersive sound technologies.
A key focus is the rapidly increasing adoption by a growing number of leading car manufacturers globally.
Dolby's integration into vehicles continues its rapid acceleration. At the Shanghai show, numerous car makers announced new models featuring Dolby experiences. This includes several brands introducing Dolby support for the very first time on their latest vehicles.
This recent progress means the number of automotive brands supporting Dolby experiences has now surpassed 25 worldwide, more than doubling the figure recorded just 12 months ago.
According to Dolby, this surge in adoption reflects the evolving perception of cars. They are transitioning from modes of transport into dynamic, personal living spaces.
In China, consumers already have access to diverse content. Major local streaming services, including platforms for music, podcasts, movies, episodic content, and even user-generated video, offer material available in Dolby formats today for compatible vehicles.
The expansion is supported by increasing collaboration across the automotive ecosystem. Supplier partners, such as Arkamys, are showcasing solutions to optimise in-car acoustics for Dolby Atmos.
MediaTek is demonstrating Dolby Vision integration on its automotive processor platforms, helping bring the display technology to more cars.
As per the company, recent research underscores strong consumer reception in China. A study found high awareness of Dolby innovations among car owners (97%). A significant majority (four in five) agree that Dolby experiences considerably improve entertainment quality, and nine out of ten prospective car buyers expressed interest in models featuring Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
