Ducati has officially revealed the Desmo250 MX motocross bike. Weighing just 103 kg dry, the motorcycle features a twin-spar aluminium frame, custom Showa suspension with Kashima coatings, and advanced electronic systems.

A year after revealing the Desmo450 MX, Ducati has now unleashed a smaller and lighter machine aimed at the highly competitive MX2 category, called Desmo250 MX.

Developed and track-tested by racer Alessandro Lupino during the intense Italian Prestige MX2 championship, this production-ready 250 cc machine directly inherits the core handling, precision, and durability traits of its larger sibling, the Desmo450 MX. The motorcycle will arrive across selected European dealerships in July 2026, with an international expansion to follow, while its official availability timeline for the Indian market will be announced at a later stage.

At the absolute centre of the Desmo250 MX is a completely new single-cylinder engine weighing just 24.7 kg, engineered using technological blueprints from the high-performance Panigale V4 R. Sharing the same 81 mm bore and 48.4 mm stroke dimensions as the flagship superbike, this 249.7 cc motor produces a maximum power output of 44.5 bhp at 12,500 rpm and a peak torque of 28.3 Nm arriving at 8,800 rpm.

The desmodromic valve timing system utilises titanium intake valves and steel exhaust valves, enabling a highly precise level of control that allows the engine to rev up to an industry-benchmark limit of 15,000 rpm, thereby giving riders the tactical advantage of holding onto each gear for longer stretches during races.

Fuel delivery is managed via a 44 mm Mikuni throttle body, paired with an entirely new exhaust system designed to extract maximum power output while strictly complying with international racing noise limits. Power is channeled to the ground through a five-speed gearbox equipped with an upshift-only quickshifter and a progressive, hydraulically operated seven-plate Brembo clutch that features a specialised disc spring to effectively combat operational wear and tear on the track.

The chassis is built around a twin-spar aluminium perimeter frame and a matching cast aluminium swingarm, with the overall structural rigidity meticulously balanced to ensure peak stability under heavy braking and cornering loads. This architecture is paired with a fully adjustable 49 mm Showa upside-down front fork delivering 310 mm of travel alongside a fully adjustable Showa rear monoshock providing 301 mm of wheel travel, with both units benefiting from low-friction Kashima coatings and custom internal valving.

The motorcycle achieves a remarkably nimble dry weight of just 103 kg with its two-litre fuel tank empty, which translates to immediate direction changes when paired with standard-fitment Pirelli Scorpion MX32 Mid-Soft tyres. Stopping duties are handled by a Brembo braking setup grabbing single Galfer discs measuring 260 mm at the front and 240 mm at the rear.

The electronics package is heavily advanced for a motocross machine, offering two engine power maps configurable via the dedicated X-Link mobile app alongside specialised engine brake control and launch control sub-settings. Most notably, it features a patented Ducati Traction Control system that processes real-time rear wheel spin to linearly reduce engine power, reducing rider fatigue and improving overall lap times.

To eliminate traditional fixed servicing schedules, the bike also uses an advanced Predictive Maintenance algorithm that monitors engine stress indicators in real time to update schedules via the mobile app.
