This is Ducati’s first modern single-cylinder and previews an all-new range of motorcycles from the Italian brand
Ducatisitis rejoice as a new member has joined your clan. Ducati had showcased its first modern single-cylinder engine, the Superquadro Mono a few days back and now we know in which bike it will make its debut. The Italian brand has unveiled the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono and this bike spawns a new journey for the Borgo Panigale based manufacturer. With the new Hypermotard 698, Ducati plans to make its products more accessible to enthusiasts and thereby gaining more sales. Here’s a low down of the baby Hypermotard.
The new Hypermotard 698 Mono combines a racing style that's minimal and aggressive with Ducati's careful design. This makes it a sleek and sporty motorcycle. It has a tall and flat seat, a raised front mudguard, and a sharp tail, which all give it a unique look.
The bike's wheels are both sporty and lightweight. It has dual exhaust pipes on the sides, a feature common in the Hypermotard family and racing bikes. The small LED headlight has a distinct shape, making the bike stand out. This same light style is also used in the rear light.
In the RVE version, the bike gets a special 'Graffiti' look with graphics inspired by street art. It's all about adding some urban style to the bike's design.
At the core of the Hypermotard 698 Mono is its Superquadro Mono engine, a big step for Ducati as it’s known for their twin and four-cylinder engines. It has a displacement of 659 cc and delivers a maximum power output of 77.5 hp at 9,750 rpm and 67 Nm at 8,000 rpm. There is also a detuned version for A2 licence holders. That is limited to 43.5 hp at 6,250 rpm and 50 Nm of torque at 5,750 rpm. The engine also features Ducati’s famous desmodromic titanium intake valves. With the race exhaust, power output can be bumped to 85.6 bhp, making it the most powerful single-cylinder production bike on sale.
The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono is compact and lightweight, with a weight of 151 kg dry. The bike has a steel trellis frame and an aluminium double-sided swingarm.
The Hypermotard 698 Mono's suspension system comprises a fully adjustable 45 mm Marzocchi upside-down fork offering 215 mm of travel. There is a fully adjustable Sachs monoshock with progressive linkages and external adjusters, providing 240 mm of wheel travel. Ducati states that this will ensure a good balance between performance and comfort. The 5 spoke alloys are shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres (120/70-17" front and 160/60-17" rear).
Additionally, there are carbon fibre components available to reduce the weight of the baby Hypermotard further. These components range from the front panel to the heat shield for the exhaust manifold, and even a homologated muffler made of titanium and carbon fibre. Ducati Performance catalogue includes the Termignoni racing exhaust, racing seat, motard footrests, sliders, and protective covers for the engine crankcases.
This bike gets Bosch-Brembo ABS 10.3ME Cornering braking system. The front has a single 330 mm disc developed specifically by Brembo for the Hypermotard 698 Mono, with Brembo M4.32 radial calliper. At the rear there is a single 240 mm disc, also with a dedicated design.
The Hypermotard 698 Mono is equipped with a Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that unlocks functionalities such as 3 Power Modes (Low, Mid, High), 4 Riding Modes (Sport, Road, Urban, Wet), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Engine Brake Control (EBC), Ducati Power Launch (DPL), and Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up&Down. The motorcycle also offers Ducati Link Ready with infotainment apps.It gets a 3.8 inch LCD screen with gear shift LED.
While there is no official confirmation yet, it's possible that Ducati India may consider launching the new Hypermotard 698 Mono in India by the first half of 2024. The question will be pricing, whether Ducati India will price the new Hypermotard Mono below the Scrambler range or not.
