Ducati V2 Engine

Ducati debuted its new lighter, and more powerful V2 engine last year with the 2025 Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2.

Ducati appears to be embracing a strategic shift to expand the employment of its new 890 cc V2 engine across multiple models. Recent Vehicle identification number (VIN) documentation submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed entries for upcoming Ducati Monster variants featuring V2-related codes, as well as the DesertX equipped with transmission specifications compatible with the new engine.

The Multistrada debuted with the new V2 engine earlier this year.

The Bologna-based manufacturer unveiled this new engine late last year, boasting impressive specifications as the lightest V-Twin ever produced by the company at just 54.5 kg. It’s already on duty in the Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2 models — where it generates 120 bhp and 93.3 Nm. The engine was later adapted for the Multistrada V2 with touring-oriented modifications including shorter gearing and smoother power delivery. Currently, the Monster produces 111 bhp and 93 Nm, while the DesertX produces 108.6 bhp/ 92 Nm from their respective V2 and L-twin engines.

On the upcoming Monster V2, we expect the bike will be lighter, thereby quicker and more responsive than the current iteration. This should bring it closer to the Streetfighter V2 in terms of performance characteristics. Meanwhile, on the DesertX, the V2 would be optimised for off-road capabilities, therefore more bottom-end torque will be the prerequisite here.
