EcoFuel Systems has won ₹66 crore order to retrofit 850 Tamil Nadu buses to CNG, aiming to cut 5.7 lakh tonnes of CO₂ yearly.
EcoFuel Systems (India) Ltd. has clinched a ₹66 crore contract to convert 850 diesel buses to CNG in Tamil Nadu, as part of the state’s clean transport initiative.
The project, spanning 12 months, aims to position Tamil Nadu as a leader in green public transport.
The retrofit is expected to cut annual CO₂ emissions by 5.7 lakh tonnes, supporting India’s climate goals and the National Green Mobility Mission’s target to shift public fleets to low-emission options by 2030.
The move offers a cost-effective alternative to electric buses, addressing decarbonisation without high capital costs.
EcoFuel will upgrade buses at various State Transport Depots using certified CNG kits, ensuring safety and fuel efficiency.
The company’s 22-year expertise in retrofits, backed by a nationwide network of over 3,800 touchpoints, will facilitate the process. This order pushes EcoFuel’s total converted fleet in India past 1,500 buses.
The contract follows EcoFuel’s work on projects like converting diesel boats for Varanasi Nagar Nigam and retrofitting vehicles for OLA, Tata Motors, and MSRTC.
With 1.3 million LOVATO kits sold and compliance with European and BS-VI standards, the company strengthens its foothold amid supply challenges faced by competitors.
EcoFuel’s Founder and Chairman, Virendra Vora, noted that Tamil Nadu’s decision reflects its commitment to clean mobility. He emphasised that the retrofit technology reduces carbon footprints while ensuring economic viability for transport bodies, a critical factor in scaling sustainable solutions.
