Hero MotoCorp had some, let’s just say, good news for us Indian enthusiasts at the EICMA 2024. While the largest Indian two-wheeler marque did get us excited with the new Xtreme 250R and Karizma XMR 250 – the new XPulse 210 still feels a bit of a letdown. But to cheer things up, Hero did add a few new business ventures, and with that, it also showcased a new electric scooter, which will steer the company’s expansion into new territories, i.e. Europe and the United Kingdom. The new scooter in contention here is the Vida Z.
The new Vida Z might look like a completely new proposal, but it shares its platform and underpinnings with the Vida V1. However, with a simple and minimalistic body design, the new Hero electric scooter opts for a much toned-down and subtle appeal. The exposed chassis in bright orange gives it that nice funky look of an otherwise plain white body, unlike the Vida V1, which looks quite dramatic from the front, especially with all the creases and lines.
Besides looking different, the Vida Z will also have the advantage of swappable batteries, which should give owners the flexibility to charge their batteries anywhere. Whether it will have a similar capacity as the Vida V1’s 3.94 kWh or more remains to be seen. However, Hero did clarify that the Z will have a modular architecture that can accommodate batteries ranging from 2.2 kWh to 4.4 kWh.
The Vida Z gets a pretty flat seat on the ergonomics front, as seen from the images. However, swappable batteries will compromise the boot space, compromising its practicality. Feature-wise, besides the obvious that the Vida Z will get a full-LED lighting system, the dashboard looks quite new as well. It will be a touchscreen TFT display with a UI that’s different from the V1.
Hero is not starting from scratch with its European ventures, though. The brand already has a technology centre in Germany and distribution centres operational in Italy. It recently entered into a commercial agreement with partners in Spain, France, and the UK. So, with all this deal already in place, Hero’s Vida should start operating in these new markets, most probably starting from the middle of 2025 onwards, at least. However, the exact date and specifics of the Z1 still remain under wraps. We shall update you as soon as we find out anything further.
