EKA Mobility Rolls Out 1,000th Electric Small CV From Chakan Plant

EKA Mobility on Thursday rolled out its 1,000th small commercial vehicle from its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, marking a production milestone that reflects increasing demand for electric vehicles in urban logistics. The occasion, held on World Environment Day, included the handover of the 1,000th unit of an EKA 6S electric passenger three-wheeler to the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust, a charitable organisation based in Pune. 

The model is designed to accommodate a driver and six passengers and is described by the company as a steering-wheel-equipped passenger electric three-wheeler in this seating format.

In a separate handover, the company presented an EKA 3S electric three-wheeler to Marisa Gerards, the Netherlands’ Ambassador to India, underscoring the international partnerships backing the company, including Dutch group VDL Groep.

"The 1,000th SCV rolling off our Chakan facility is not merely a production number; it is proof of what Indian engineering, innovation, and determination can achieve," Sudhir Mehta, Founder & Chairman, EKA Mobility, said in a statement.

The Chakan facility serves as the company’s hub for small commercial vehicle and truck production. EKA Mobility also operates a bus manufacturing unit in Koregaon Bhima, Pune, and is developing a 47-acre facility in Pithampur. Once fully operational, these sites are expected to support annual production capacity of 15,000 buses, 24,000 SCVs and 4,000 trucks.

The Chakan plant currently employs more than 1,000 people and houses an in-house research and development centre with over 400 engineers and designers. The company also runs an all-women assembly line for SCV production under its EvolutioNARI initiative.

EKA Mobility is part of the government’s Production Linked Incentive scheme for the automotive sector and is backed by investors including the NIIF India-Japan Fund and Enam Holdings.
