X has removed 2,30,892 accounts between April 26 and May 25.
X (formerly Twitter) banned over 2.29 lakh accounts in India between April 26 and May 25 for violating its policies against child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. In its monthly compliance report submitted under the new IT Rules, X disclosed that it had removed 2,30,892 accounts during the reporting period and took action against 967 accounts for promoting terrorism on the platform in India.
X receives thousands of complaints every day, and its latest compliance report shows how the platform handles legal compliance issues in India and moderates harmful and illegal content on its service.
The microblogging site said it received 17,580 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms during this time. It reviewed 76 appeals against account suspensions but did not overturn any of the suspensions after scrutiny.
X noted that most complaints from India were related to ban evasion (6,881), followed by hateful conduct (3,763), sensitive adult content (3,205), and abuse/harassment (2,815). In the previous monthly report from March 26 to April 25, X banned 1,84,241 accounts in the country and removed 1,303 accounts promoting terrorism.
