At the 64th Annual Convention by SIAM, the minister also highlighted the need to have more incentives for the infrastructure.
At the 64th Annual Convention by the Society of Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of Heavy Industry and Steel, said that India needs to focus more on utilising renewable sources for the charging infrastructure in the country.
Kumaraswamy said, “In order to ensure continuous growth in e-mobility, our ministry is now focusing on charging infrastructure. While developing the charging infrastructure, we are conscious that integrating this infrastructure with renewable energy sources is essential for maximizing the environmental benefits of electric mobility”.
Since the expiration of the FAME-II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) scheme, the charging infrastructure in the electric vehicle segment has not been getting any incentives in the country. The third phase of FAME scheme is set to arrive before the end of this year which could bring more incentives for the charging infrastructure in the country.
There are more than 12,000 EV charging stations in India but more need to be added to make EV adoption more prominent and less problematic in India. Adding more chargers will give potential EV buyers the confidence to invest in electric vehicles.
