Triumph Recall Story

New software aims to get rid of the bugs related to the fuel gauge sensor.

Triumph has been silently improving its 400 cc offerings – the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X – in the country and this time round, the console is getting a much needed software update. With the new software in place, the aim is to improve the fuel related data readings on the bikes.

Apparently, there was a bug in the system that delayed the accurate reading of the fuel level for quite some time after start up. This new update aims to get rid of the said bug. Previously, the Scrambler has received two similarly minor silent recalls. The first one was to change the front brake lever design, due to which the braking performance has improved marginally. And the other one was resolved during our first service. Many owners were reporting a low rpm stalling issue, especially at traffic signals, for which Triumph-Bajaj found a quick fix.

However, the issue with the iffy DTE reading still remains. At the time of the first rides as well as during our road tests and comparisons, it was quite tricky to exactly gauge how accurate the DTE reading on the bikes was. This issue is likely to be in place as it seemed to be taking the instantaneous/real-time fuel efficiency into account and not the average fuel efficiency.

Given that the software update on one of our family member’s Scrambler 400X was done just as we are putting this story out, it will take a bit of time to get his experience on whether or not the system has become more reliable. We shall be posting an update here as well as on our social media channels soon.

In the meantime, why don’t you check out our comparison video between the Scrambler 400X and the Royal Enfield Himalayan, as it should help you figure out what bike suits your needs better.
