Triumph’s next 400 cc offering was seen with a half-fairing and clip-on bars
Triumph’s third all-new bike on the 400 cc bike has been in the works for quite some time and 2025 would most likely be the year we see the Thruxton 400 bursting onto the scene. We have managed to spot the cafe racer on test and understand a few interesting details prior to the bike’s arrival.
For starters, the Thruxton 400 isn’t going to be a mere slap-on job on the Speed 400. Yes, it will have the same rolling chassis and engine as the roadster. Where the differences should hopefully arrive is in the suspension tuning as well as maybe the final drive to make the 40 bhp 398 cc motor capable of handling that extra bit of weight it will have on board.
It will be heavier, not by a lot, than the Speed 400 as it will bear a new half fairing. On the test mule, the fairing design looked more like the Speed Triple 1200 RR’s sharp face than the sleek and elegant accessory of the Thruxton 1200.

And complimenting the fairing will be new raised clip-on bars, to give the bike a slightly sporty feel. It should not be too taxing as a supersport, something similar to what we have seen on the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, which too is due an update. Triumph might also make a few changes to the rider’s triangle by pushing the footpegs a bit rearwards.
The tail of the Thruxton 400, though, is tweaked slightly when compared to the Speed 400. The tail light looks very different and the overhang is shorter. Plus, the pillion seat bears a cowl, to give it that retro racer look. However, some of its visual appeal would be lost with the single-piece grab handle in place.
Expect Triumph to launch the new Thruxton 400 towards the middle of the year. Currently, the Speed 400 retails at ₹ 2.40 lakh while the Scrambler 400X bears a sticker price of ₹2.65 lakh. Hence, we might see the Thruxton 400 slotting in between the two at around ₹2.50 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
