Fanatec, the racing simulator hardware maker acquired by Corsair last year, has introduced an officially licensed steering wheel based on the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo concept car in Gran Turismo 7.
The CSL Elite Steering Wheel Porsche Vision GT has a diameter of 310mm. It’s made of cast aluminum for strength and reduced weight, with a microfibre fabric for comfort and easy handling. It retains Porsche’s signature shape and spoke cutouts, but Fanatec has engineered a new shifter mechanism, which it says allows for a uniquely tactile response.
Gamers will get a versatile input layout with seven rotary encoders, including two multi-position switches and a 7-way (multi-directional and rotating) FunkySwitch controller. The four primary encoders are automatically assigned to Gran Turismo 7’s MFD system, for quick access to traction control, brake balance, torque split, and fuel mapping. A Tuning Menu button is integrated into the Porsche crest, and there’s an OLED display which shows settings that can be adjusted on the fly. Two buttons are integrated into the rim, a first for a Fanatec wheel.
This wheel is compatible with all modern Fanatec bases, using a QR2 Lite quick release mechanism (with no torque limitation). This can be swapped out for a QR1 for compatibility with older bases.
The Fanatec CSL Elite Steering Wheel Porsche Vision GT is already available from Corsair’s web store for €349.95 in Europe (approximately ₹34,000 before taxes) and $439.99 in the US.
The Vision Gran Turismo “study”, announced for Gran Turismo 7 in 2021, was Porsche’s first concept car developed exclusively for use in a game. It has allowed the company’s designers to go wild with ideas without conforming to the constraints of real-world production. It combines real-world elements from several Porsche models as well as forward-looking iterations of familiar features, allowing the company to experiment with its design language and overall physics. It offers fast, direct steering response in-game, and haptic feedback gives players a real-world feel.
