Ferrari has gone all out with its latest V12 machine, and presented to the world, the spiritual successor to the 812 Superfast in the form of the new Ferrari 12Cilindri, or dodici cilindri, as Ferrari calls it, which translates to ‘12 Cylinders’. The new two-seater Berlinetta Ferrari 12Cilindri, powered by a mid-front-mounted, naturally-aspirated V12, will be available to purchase in Q4 2024 and Q1 2025. Flavio Manzoni, the designer behind this masterpiece, says the Ferrari 12Cilindri is for connoisseurs with a clear vision of what Ferrari’s DNA has always been, truly making it a car for the few.
The Ferrari 12Cilindri, conceptualised by Flavio Manzoni and the Ferrari Styling Centre design team, represents a departure from the established stylistic norms of Ferrari's mid-front-engined V12 models. The sleek flanks sweep back seamlessly, contributing to a sense of unity. Unlike its predecessors like the 812 Competizione, the 12Cilindri opts for a more precise, geometric approach in its design. The sculpted bonnet seamlessly integrates with the front wings, creating a fluid and uninterrupted surface. Notably, traditional design elements such as elongated headlights and a conventional grille shape have been reimagined, replaced by geometric forms that align with the overall design language.
The integration of headlights into a single wraparound band exemplifies this departure from convention. Similarly, the rear, with the taillights set into a blade, traverses the concave rear section but the absence of a rear spoiler is compensated by the inclusion of two active flaps integrated with the rear screen, contributing to a high-tech aesthetic.
The interior design of the Ferrari 12Cilindri is structured into three distinct levels, contributing to a dual-cockpit effect with attention to colour and material combinations for an elegant or sporty ambience. Sustainable materials, such as Alcantara containing 65 per cent recycled polyester, are prominently utilised in alignment with Ferrari's focus on environmental sustainability. Drawing inspiration from Ferrari's dual-cockpit architecture seen in recent models like the Roma and Purosangue, the cabin of the 12Cilindri offers comfort and engagement for both driver and passenger.
The horizontal extension of the dashboard creates a clear separation between decorative volumes and technical functions, accentuated by contrasting materials that enhance the perceived lightness of the interior. A generously-sized tinted glass roof enhances cabin airiness and thermal efficiency, is integrated into the upper cabin. The introduction of a new Human Machine Interface (HMI) includes three displays, providing control over driving and vehicle dynamics information. The capacitive steering wheel, standard on the 12Cilindri, offers precise and intuitive command activation, even in dynamic driving conditions. Connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with wireless phone charging, enhance convenience. Optional high-end audio, developed in collaboration with Burmester, delivers an in-car experience with crystal-clear high frequencies and powerful bass.
The Ferrari 12Cilindri showcases dynamic controls for front-engined berlinettas, integrating technologies to enhance performance and handling. The implementation of brake-by-wire allows for the adoption of recent innovations such as ABS Evo from the 296 GTB and the 6D sensor, ensuring precise control and reduced braking distances. Aspirated Torque Shaping introduces a new logic for smoother power delivery from the naturally aspirated engine. The SSC 8.0 system, an evolution of Ferrari's renowned control unit, facilitates communication between various control systems.
The Ferrari 12Cilindri features four-wheel independent steering (4WS), first seen on the 812 Competizione, enhancing yaw management and responsiveness during cornering. With near-ideal weight distribution and a reduced wheelbase compared to its predecessor, the 12Cilindri offers optimal handling and responsiveness. Tyre options include Michelin Pilot Sport S5 or Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport, both developed in new sizes specifically for Ferrari, enhancing grip and performance.
The Ferrari 12Cilindri is equipped with a potent 6.5-litre engine, positioned behind the front axle beneath a clamshell bonnet design. Unlike its counterparts like the 812 Superfast or F12, this design accentuates the engine bay, adding to the vehicle's dramatic visual appeal. With a power output matching the formidable 812 Competizione at 820 bhp, and a maximum torque of 650 Nm at 7,250rpm, the majority of this power is available from 2,500 rpm onwards. The engine boasts an impressive redline of 9,500 rpm, resulting in exhilarating acceleration figures: 0- 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds, 0-200 kmph in 7.8 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 350 kmph.
