The Red Bull team's engine, which is derived from Honda, is now considered the second-best engine in Formula One and is more or less on par with the Mercedes power unit
According to Red Bull's Helmut Marko, Ferrari now has the most powerful engine in F1 based on speed trap figures from pre-season testing in Bahrain and the first race, which was also held at the Sakhir racetrack.
The Red Bull team's engine, which is derived from Honda, is now considered the second-best engine in Formula One and is more or less on par with the Mercedes power unit, which has been the leader of the field since the turbo-hybrid era of F1 began in 2014. The team's leadership has acknowledged this.
Renault's engine, which is only used by Alpine, is considered the weakest engine of the lot. However, engine performance has generally converged, and the engine development freeze shouldn't hamper anyone.
Marko noted that although Ferrari has improved in straight-line speed, it has fallen behind in tire degradation relative to Red Bull. He also commented that Mercedes has had a similar start to the 2022 season, but he doesn't believe there will be a quick solution to the German team's problems.
