Fiat's new EV, the Topolino, is a tiny hatchback that increasingly resembles a quadricycle.
Fiat has been slow to embrace electric cars, but its parent company Stellantis has woken up and made a huge bet like almost every major automotive player on the planet. Fiat's new EV, the Topolino, is coming soon. It is a tiny hatchback that increasingly resembles a quadricycle.
The Topolino has been designed for short trips in and around European cities. Fiat has revealed that the car will cost $10,735 in Italy. At 8.3 feet long, the Topolino is a quadricycle with a 5.5 kWh battery and a range of 75.6 km. Given its small battery, it will fully charge in 4 hours.
The Topolino will be even smaller than the 2013 Smart Fortwo. It will launch in Italy later this year and in the UK next year.
This car will come with unique accessories, including a shower for beachgoers along the Italian coastline. It will also offer a USB fan, Bluetooth speaker, thermal water bottle, and seat covers that double as beach towels.
The Topolino will ship in a single trim with interior and wheel options as the only choices. Stellantis has said it will offer a conventional closed version and an open version with removable doors.
With a top speed of 45 mph, the Topolino is similar to the Citroen Ami and will likely be limited to the European market. Fiat touts the vehicle's small carbon footprint thanks to a battery 94.5% smaller than the Tesla Model X's. The Topolino is well-suited for short trips, which the U.S. Department of Transportation says constitute 52% of all trips in 2021. The average American trip length is 4.8 km.
