All 150 CBU units of the car have been booked and deliveries for the same will commence in June.
Earlier this month, Volkswagen India officially opened bookings for the Golf GTI premium hatchback and according to reports, all the units from the first batch have been already booked. The German brand had planned to import 250 units but only 150 units have been allotted and all the cars have already been booked.
The interesting detail is that for customers to qualify for bookings, they had to undergo a quiz and only after scoring satisfactory results were they allowed to book the VW Golf GTI. The above shows there’s demand for performance-oriented cars in our country. It’s expected that the Golf GTI could be priced around ₹60 lakh (on-road) making it among the most expensive hatchbacks to ever go on sale in our country.

Coming to the mechanicals, the India-spec car will be housing a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine under its bonnet delivering 261 bhp and 370 Nm of peak torque. The powertain is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. Volkswagen claims that the Golf GTI can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.
The sporty DNA is visible in the styling of the car. It rides on 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels as standard, with optional 19-inch wheels. On the styling front, key design highlights include GTI-specific bumpers, dual exhaust tips, and a dual-tone roof spoiler. The Volkswagen performance hatchback will be offered in four colour choices: Grenadilla Black Metallic, Oryx White Premium, Moonstone Grey Black, and Kings Red Premium.

Step inside and you will notice that the dashboard of the car is similar to the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line. Key interior features include a 15-inch central infotainment touchscreen , a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and sporty elements include a flat-bottomed GTI-branded steering wheel, and sports seats finished in the brand’s signature tartan-patterned upholstery. The Volkswagen Golf GTI is expected to go on sale later this month and will rival the Mini Cooper S.
