Force Motors and BMW Group India have jointly announced a key manufacturing milestone — the roll-out of the 100,000th engine from Force Motors’ engine assembly facility in Chennai. The milestone unit was installed in a BMW X5. Operational since 2015, the Chennai facility was established exclusively to assemble and test engines and gearboxes for BMW vehicles manufactured in India. The plant caters to the entire range of BMW cars assembled at the company’s manufacturing facility in Chengalpattu, near Chennai.
The facility operates under stringent quality protocols aligned with BMW Group’s global manufacturing standards. Over the past nine years, it has evolved into a critical component of BMW India’s localisation strategy, aimed at reducing dependency on imports while maintaining the brand’s benchmark in precision and performance. The Chennai unit is a wholly-owned and operated facility by Force Motors but functions under a ‘dedicated and exclusive’ model for BMW India.
“This collaboration exemplifies the strength of Indo-German industrial cooperation,” the companies noted in a joint statement, highlighting the integration of German engineering standards with Indian manufacturing capabilities.
The Force Motors plant assembles a variety of engine types, including both petrol and diesel powertrains. Every engine undergoes a comprehensive testing and validation process before being dispatched to BMW’s vehicle assembly line, ensuring global compliance and performance consistency.
